Readers may remember that I used to have a weekly feature called the Lunch Tray Friday Buffet in which I rounded up on Fridays a potpourri of news and housekeeping items, from the serious to the ridiculous. The Buffet took a lot of time to put together each week and I finally let it fall by the wayside. But today I had so many little tidbits to share, I’m serving up a surprise Buffet . . .
Two Exciting Book Giveaways Next Week on TLT!
Monday is the Chinese New Year and to celebrate I’ll be reviewing — and giving away — Simple Asian Meals, a beautiful new cookbook by renowned Asian food expert Nina Simonds. I’ll also tell you all about Nina’s children’s book, a treasury of Chinese tales and recipes. Then on Wednesday I’ll be posting a review of Fed Up with Lunch, the long-awaited book written by Mrs. Q — recently revealed to be
Chicago area speech pathologist Sarah Wu. Sarah’s graciously allowed me to giveaway a copy of that book, too. (On both days, just leave a comment on the respective posts and I’ll use a random number generator to pick the lucky winners.)
A Paula Deen Round-Up
There was a lot of discussion on TLT’s Facebook page about Paula Deen’s revelation this week that she has Type 2 diabetes — and that she’s entered into an endorsement deal with a drug manufacturer. There are hundreds of posts about this development in the blogosphere but a few you might want to check out are by Tom Philpott (taking issue with the particular diabetes drug Deen will be hawking); Jane Black (wishing Deen would use her illness to everyone’s benefit instead of only her own); Nancy Huenhnergarth (ditto) and this one from a diabetes blog called Diabetes Mine.
“Foods” That Should Scare All of Us
Sally Kuzemchak over at Real Mom Nutrition posted this week a funny-sad photo montage of kids’ foods that scare her, like new packaging for mini cookies that makes it even easier to pour them into your mouth (um, this was a problem?). What scares me is how easy it woud be to create other, similar montages every time we go to the grocery store.
Photos. Lots and lots of photos.
As I mentioned on TLT’s Facebook page yesterday, I just discovered that a huge number of stock photo credits I purchased a long time ago — and then somehow completely forgot about — are about to expire. I now have to buy photos for posts as yet unwritten (impossible), so look forward to lots and lots of utterly pointless pictures like these scattered throughout the blog for months to come. (Someone in TLT’s vast Accounting Department is going to get called on the carpet, for sure.) :-)
Have a great weekend, everyone! More Lunch Tray on Monday!
