Right now I’m standing in our cousins’ flooded home, hauling out whatever can be salvaged, along with an incredible team of volunteers from my children’s school.
But I had to stop for one minute to share this wonderful news:
The Houston Independent School District has received approval from the United States Department of Agriculture and the Texas Department of Agriculture to waive the required application process for the National School Lunch/Breakfast Program. This decision means all HISD students will eat all school meals for free during the 2017-2018 school year.
More here.
Thank you, USDA and TDA!

Thank you for the good wishes – we are all safe and sound. And see below – I’m only sharing this good news, but didn’t have anything to do with it!

OUTSTANDing hard work. I was the person in my childcare program who was responsible for the CACFP meal counts for reimbursement for free lunch. Now everyone in your district will receive breakfast, lunch and snack!!,
This is a BIG Deal.
Thank you for advocacy and support for school lunch.

Should be clear – I had nothing to do with this decision! But really delighted to share the good news. 🙂
