As you may know, next Monday, 10/24 is Food Day. Created by the Center for Science in the Public Interest and with an advisory board that’s a veritable Who’s Who of the food movement (Pollan, Spurlock, Nestle, Kessler, Brownell and many others), Food Day
seeks to bring together Americans from all walks of life—parents, teachers, and students; health professionals, community organizers, and local officials; chefs, school lunch providers, and eaters of all stripes—to push for healthy, affordable food produced in a sustainable, humane way. . . .
A Food Day event could be as simple as organizing a cooking class or a vegetable-identification contest in your child’s elementary school—or a healthy pot-luck dinner with friends. College students could organize forums that explore how our dietary choices impact the environment, the health of farm workers, and the treatment of animals. Health departments could kick off weight-loss campaigns. And city councils could hold hearings on how to lure supermarkets and farmers markets to underserved areas.
Events are going to be happening all over the country and Brianne DeRosa of Red, Round or Green and I were wondering how we could celebrate the day online. Then Bri came up with a great idea – a virtual, progressive dinner party!
So on Monday, 10/24, you can come to my house for a “real food” appetizer (complete with photos and the recipe) and then on Tuesday you can head to Bri’s for an entree and on Wednesday to Grace Freedman’s (of Eat Dinner.org and Blog for Family Dinner) for a side dish. (We may even add a dessert blogger – details to follow.) And at each stop there will be a reader giveaway with prizes. Fun, no?
No need to RSVP to our dinner party and you don’t even need to bring us hostess gifts.
I look forward to having you all over to my place on Food Day next Monday! 🙂
A P.S. to Houston readers: our city’s celebration of Food Day is taking place at the downtown farmer’s market on Wednesday, 10/26. Details here. I may even have a Lunch Tray booth set up at the market – if that’s happening, I’ll let you know.

I’m also thrilled to be included with a “course” for Food Day. I have been a big fan and follower of the Food Day movement since I first heard about it in the spring. The Blog For Family Dinner (www.blogforfamilydinner.org #B4FD) project decided to use Food Day as a culmination date of our Month of Family Dinners because we believed in the Food Day mission. Many bloggers have shared real food recipes this month–I counted 15 recipes so far! (TLT has a #B4FD post this Friday and Bri of Red, Round, or Green will also be a guest blogger as we continue our posts in November.) Thank you ladies for your support and look forward to this “dinner party!”

Love the progressive dinner idea! Let me know if you need a dessert blogger. : )
Bri says
Jeanne, we do! We really do! Are you volunteering? I’d LOVE it.
Jeanne @JollyTomato says
Sure, I’d love to! I didn’t want to be the awkward guest who invites herself to a dinner party, but here I am – I promise I won’t show up empty-handed : )
You can email me the specs, ground rules, etc. Looking forward to it!
