Last Friday was the International Festival at my son’s elementary school, an event we always look forward to. Because of its location, the school draws families from 40-50 countries, many of which come to Houston to work in the Texas Medical Center or the city’s energy industry. Each October, everyone is invited to set up a table at the festival to showcase their home country’s food and culture, and this year over 35 countries were represented.
The food is usually homemade — and always delicious. We sampled everything from a bright purple Filipino yam dessert to Swedish fish paste on crackers to Pakistani samosas! Take a look:

This is just AWESOME !!!
That’s what I like about Houston = the different cultures gathered around good meals ^_^
March is the month of “Francophonie” = it celebrates the French language in the French speaking countries. My daughter’s preschool (French) organises some activities with and for the kids, to discover the culture of these countries. Parents are welcome to bring typical dishes/snacks from their countries. Last year, we had to chance to have a taste of the West Indies, Algeria, Morocco, Congo, Cameroun, Egypt, Argentina, Canada, USA, Vietnam and of course France…
