Los Angeles School District Turns Down Jamie Oliver’s “Revolution”

by Bettina Elias Siegel on November 8, 2010

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s “Food Revolution” television show chronicled his attempts to improve school food in a West Virginia town.  He was hoping to do the same for Los Angeles schools in a new season of the show being filmed this year.  However, apparently the Los Angeles Unified School District has other ideas.

E! Online reports that in a letter to the show’s producers, a source from LAUSD’s superintendent’s office wrote:

While we appreciate your interest in our school meal program, we believe our direct work with nutrition experts, health advocates, the community, schools and students is the most effective strategy for our continued success and improvement.

No word yet on where the show will now be filmed.

(Hey, Jamie — how do you feel about Tex-Mex, rodeos, art cars and strip malls?   Just a thought.)

How can we get w/Jamie’s people and request his presence? How cool it would be to get Jamie here.

I was sort of kidding re: Houston only because he seems set on going to L.A., but truthfully, we are prime candidates for an overhaul!

Newark School district in NJ desperately needs help….would be a change on the suburban W.Virginia series, and a great push for all those desperate inner city districts.

I would love to see Houston or Katy get the series. I’m from Huntington where his last show was filmed. I think it would be fantastic to see what he could do here.
