To close out the week . . . a 70’s heart throb returns, reader poll results and an ocean of fish (in a manner of speaking).
For Everyone Who Had a Brady Bunch Lunchbox (And You Know Who You Are)
I’ll always feel grateful to Kelly Lester, creator of the Easy Lunchbox System. Even though we’ve never met, back when I started this blog she took a lot of time to give me invaluable technical pointers and also introduced me to Alison Moore Smith, a WordPress guru who has bailed me out of many a tech emergency. Kelly’s a blogger, too, but instead of just typing away at a laptop in her flannel PJ’s, I learned today that she’s also out there creating videos. Elaborately produced song-and-dance videos. With sets and costumes. Co-starring Greg Brady! (That hysterical screech you heard was my eight-year-old self). You can see it here. How on earth can I compete, people? Does anyone have David Cassidy’s contact info?
Snacking and Control: Reader Poll Results
Yesterday I took another of my highly scientific reader polls about kids’ snacking and control. At current count, 46% of you follow the system we have in my house, which is that kids need to ask a parent before grabbing a snack. 30% say that there’s nothing in your kitchen that you wouldn’t want your kids to eat, and your kids are free to snack at will. 15% say that’s true for fruits/veggies only, and all other snacks require approval. And 7% of you think I’m a scary control freak. (I guess I asked for that, so I’m not at all offended. Really.) Thanks to everyone who responded and left comments, both here and on the Lunch Tray’s Facebook page.
Playing With (and Photographing) Your Food
My delightful cousin-by-marriage (and artist) Barbara Stein recently sent me an email about the work of Carl Warner, a photographer who creates fantastical “foodscapes” — eerie scenes in which all the visual elements are actually foods. Check out this photo (hint — the “ocean” is salmon and the “rocks” are potatoes):
Pretty amazing, no? You can see more of Carl Warner’s work at his website, here.

Have a great weekend, everyone! More Lunch Tray on Monday . . .

Bettina, thank you for the very kind words. What a nice morning boost!
Kelly’s video is a scream. She is so talented and the whole retro thing is wondrous.
My only disappointment was that “Greg” didn’t don some bell bottoms and send out a rendition of “Keep On Movin'”! 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend!

OMG Bettina!!!! You are THE BOMB. Thank you for your fabulous support and compliments. FYI – I am sitting here in mismatched flannel PJ’s (my usual wardrobe for emails and blogging. ) because I am not ‘in hair and makeup’, as they say. Anytime I get to be that “Hollywood” version of myself, it’s like looking at a mirage lol. I’ll let “Greg” know you enjoyed it!!!

I’m sorry. Did you just say you would communicate my thoughts to Greg Brady? I think, on behalf of my eight-year-old self, I need to go lie down.
Alison Moore Smith says
ROFL I’ll get some smelling salts for you.
Kelly Lester says
Don’t get up yet. I sent your post to him. 😉
