Taking School-Food-Reform-Free Day right into the weekend, here’s today’s Friday Buffet:
Whatever Little Jimmy Wants to Eat . . .
The New York Times Diner’s Journal blog has a funny post on crazy foods that kids like to eat (and that some very accommodating parents are willing to make.) Bread topped with Prego and Goldfish crackers? No judgment here.
[Ed. Update: Sorry – forgot to link to the NYT slideshow when I published this. The link is now there.]
Results of TLT Reader Poll on Happy Meal Toys
This seems too serious a topic for today, but I did promise the poll results on the proposed San Francisco ban on the use of toys in most kids’ fast food meals. As of today, most TLT readers support the ban, at around 42% in favor to 31% against. San Francisco school food advocate Dana Woldow (who strongly supports the measure) had a nice back and forth with Lunch Tray readers in the comments that came out of the poll. You can read them here.
A Word About Halloween
A few of you have asked me if I plan to post about the whole Halloween candy thing, to which I can only say, Are you kidding? I’ve been mentally planning that post since last spring! Seriously, for purely selfish reasons I can’t wait to learn how each one of you handles the annual candy onslaught. (I’m also going to post about the other side of the equation – deciding what to hand out on Halloween.) But don’t comment today — hold those thoughts and we can really get into it next week.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed a day without thinking about school food reform. We’ve really got to do this more often. Have a great weekend everyone.
