When I recently discussed my decision to advertise on The Lunch Tray, I mentioned that the ads which appear on the site are selected not by me but by Google, based on key words in my text.
I knew this computerized system might result in some unexpected pairings, but even I was taken aback when yesterday I saw an ad on my site for . . . [hangs blogger head in shame] . . . Trix yogurt!
Not only does fluorescently-hued Trix yogurt contain high fructose corn syrup, potassium sorbate, artificial colors and artificial flavors, it was actually something of a poster child for bad school food here in Houston when HISD began serving it for breakfast last year. Parent protests were so vocal that the district was forced to discontinue serving it. And now it’s being advertised on The Lunch Tray!
What can I say, people? This clearly is problematic. I’m going to start investigating other advertising options and/or see if there are ways to better tailor the Google ads to The Lunch Tray’s underlying philosophy – a philosophy that’s decidedly anti-Trix.

Why not try an affiliate page with Amazon that lists the books/ products that you believe in? If not, the silly Trix by advertisers will undoubtedly continue!

Susan: I’m such a blogger newbie that I wasn’t even aware that I could do this! I’m going to contact you offline and get the details. – Bettina

Bettina, as a fellow PAC member with HISD, I find that quite ironic and absolutely laughable! Trix Yogurt, the one that sent the HISD parents over the edge is your sponsor of the day!!
You do not have to change your sponsor site – you could just highlight the advertiser and why that product should NOT be served in our schools!
Pardon me while I have a giggle break!! :p

The only ad I’m seeing is a groupon ad by google, I would have to click on it and put in information about myself in order to get an add for my area. I chose not to. So I see an add for groupon but not for Trix yogurt. Yuck.

I agree with Stephanie…we can all giggle when we see an ad like Trix…I’m really waiting for a Canwich…I’ll probably fall off my chair laughing! You’ve been very vocal about you’re philosophy…
Gretchen says
I don’t see any ads, actually. But even just reading about Stacy’s and Trix made me laugh!
