Here’s the latest:
Still on only Day Four of our petition, 70,000 concerned citizens have asked USDA to get pink slime out of our children’s school food. Seventy thousand in four days. And that number is going up by the minute.
I have been busy working on my Houston Chronicle op-ed today and therefore have yet to offer on TLT the fullest explication of my views on why pink slime has no place on kids’ lunch trays (or, indeed, in our food supply if without adequate labeling.) I hope to have that post ready soon as the meat industry is clearly starting to rally its troops. (@QueenofWein, the Twitter handle for a PR person at the American Meat Institute, and others are now out there tweeting “reassuring” facts and articles about pink slime, information I’d very much like to address.)
But in the meantime, please do read Nancy Heuhnergarth’s excellent post today on why pink slime, even if safe (and she’s not conceding that point), is troubling to many Americans.

i think that they should eat that slop and not our children
wouldn't you like to know says
Of course a vegetarian is going to have a problem with red meat being served at our schools lunch cafe for our kids. I strongly believe that the red meat (beef) is a good protein source for our kids.

Red meat is the whole reason why I never eat McDonalds hamburgers. I agree that the USDA should only use their red slime for only animal food products and not for our kids!
