Salad Bar Grant Program Begins Accepting Applications Today

by Bettina Elias Siegel on September 1, 2010

The Lunch Tray reported previously on Chef Ann Cooper’s program, in association with Whole Foods, to bring salad bars to schools around the country.  Called The Great American Salad Bar Project, the program has already raised $680,000 of its $750,000 goal.  (The amount raised to date represents about 270 salad bars.)

In addition, today marks the opening of the period in which schools may apply for a salad bar to be placed in their own cafeteria.  To qualify, applicant schools must participate in the National School Lunch Program, be within a 50-mile radius of a Whole Foods store and demonstrate a commitment to sustaining a healthy cafeteria salad bar into the future.

Interested schools may apply at www.saladbarproject.org, now through Novevember 1, 2010.

Go Chef Ann!  Go Whole Foods!

One criterion is need and I’m not sure Roberts would qualify. That was Rita’s opinion, at any rate.

I donated last time I was in Whole Foods – this is a great initiative and I felt like a good LunchTray representative doing it!
