Dana Woldow, San Francisco school food reformer and founder of the school food advocacy website PEACHSF, has a new article this week that I wanted to share. It boils down for the average reader how the pending Farm Bill reauthorization may adversely impact school food.
What’s the connection between the two?
First, the Farm Bill will affect food stamp eligibility and that in turn will affect how many families qualify for free school lunch. And second, the bill will affect the price of the milk that districts are legally required to serve at breakfast and lunch. Even a slight price increase could have a serious impact on district budgets.
