Hey, do you guys know about The Happy Bite podcast?
Two of my favorite kid/food colleagues, Sally Kuzemchak, RD of Real Mom Nutrition and Dr. Dina Rose of It’s Not About Nutrition, get together on a regular basis and chat for 20 minutes about the child feeding issues that worry parents most: whether kids really need to drink milk, how to respond to picky eating, whether it’s OK for kids to eat artificial food dyes, and so much more. (A complete list of the topics they’ve covered so far can be found here.)
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting both Sally and Dina (remember that family dinner conference a while back?) and I can tell you that listening to The Happy Bite is almost as fun as hanging out in person with these two whip-smart, warm-hearted women. It’s basically like having a phone chat with your best friend – a friend who also happens to be a child feeding expert.
This week, The Happy Bite takes on the issue of sugary school breakfasts and I was honored to be the podcast’s very first guest! We talked about my recent piece in Civil Eats on this knotty topic, including some of the surprising reasons why schools resort to sugar-bomb offerings like Craisins and daily juice. I also give listeners some advice on how to address this issue in their own school or district.
I hope you’ll listen to our interview, and you can become a regular Happy Bite subscriber via iTunes here.
