In a recent Sunday column, New York Times opinion writer Frank Bruni chastised the food snobs who’ve mocked President Trump’s plebeian tastes, including his love of well-done steak slathered with ketchup (“Donald Trump vs. the Food Snobs“).
I agreed with Bruni on that point, but then he went further, arguing that a president’s eating habits in general should be off limits to the media and the public. To my mind, though, the way any politician regards food can have real consequences when it comes to food policy. So I dashed off a letter to the Times that same day and just learned that it’s now published online. (It will be in the print paper tomorrow.)
