As I shared on social media last week, President Donald Trump has filled his Secretary of Agriculture post, the last of his open cabinet positions. After weeks of speculation involving a wide array of potential candidates, Trump’s final pick was Sonny Perdue (no relation to the poultry company), a former two-term governor of Georgia with longstanding ties to agribusiness.
We don’t yet know Perdue’s views on the various federal child nutrition programs that fall under his agency’s purview, including the school lunch and breakfast programs, WIC and the Child and Adult Care Food Program. But there has already been quite a bit of speculation (and some concern) among experts about how Perdue’s appointment will generally affect agricultural and food policy in the years ahead.

I likely won’t be posting the rest of the week, as I’m headed off to Princeton, N.J. where I’ll be speaking at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. I’m super-excited about the trip and may post about it on TLT’s Facebook page and Twitter feed. Otherwise, see you back here next week!
