Do you know about the federal Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program?
For over a decade, it’s been providing low-income kids with fresh produce as their midday school snack, and it’s been credited with everything from improving kids’ food choices in the cafeteria to lowering their BMI scores.
But now the new draft House school food bill threatens to broaden the program to include foods that are a far cry from “fresh” – potentially undermining the core educational purpose of the program.
